Surprise, surprise, Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The award is Russell's third straight and fifth overall.

In the Buckeyes' lone game last week — an 80-56 drubbing of Maryland — the freshman guard from Louisville had 18 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. He did not commit a turnover in what was his third double-double of the season.

Russell has keyed Ohio State's resurgence with his performance of late. He leads the country amongst true freshman in scoring at 19.4 points per game. In Big Ten games, Russell is averaging 21.8 points per game, which is No. 1 in the league.

Russell and the Buckeyes take on Purdue at Mackey Arena on Wednesday.
