More Ohio State fall sport athletes than ever before have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
A total of 140 fall sports athletes – a new high mark for Ohio State and 20 more than last year – were named as Academic All-Big Ten honorees by the conference on Tuesday.
To qualify for Academic All-Big Ten status, a Big Ten athlete must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and have been enrolled at the institution for a minimum of 12 months.
Three Ohio State fall sports athletes – Sammy Stone (field hockey), Alex Dediu (men's cross country) and Samuel Buzzas (men's soccer) – received special recognition for carrying 4.0 GPAs.
A total of 46 Ohio State football players earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition. Notable honorees from the football team include offensive linemen Paris Johnson Jr., Nicholas Petit-Frere and Luke Wypler, tight end Jeremy Ruckert, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, defensive end Tyreke Smith, running back Miyan Williams, safety Marcus Williamson and linebackers Steele Chambers, Tommy Eichenberg, Teradja Mitchell and Cody Simon.
