A sport that is off to a pretty good start but hasn't gotten much publicity for it is the Ohio State baseball team.

With a current 8-4 record, including a win over #16 Southern Miss, Ohio State is looking to recapture some of the magic that led to their Big Ten Championship just two years ago.

With trips so far to Florida, Arizona, Florida again, and South Carolina, Ohio State will certainly be grateful for this homestand which will begin on Friday against Cal St. Northridge.

Before that, however, the Buckeyes will finish up the Environmental Staffing Chanticleer Classic this weekend in South Carolina before heading to North Carolina on Tuesday for a two-game series with UNC Wilmington.

Thus far this season, Ohio State's success has been in large part due to their offense. The Buckeyes have scored eight or more runs in exactly half of their games, including a 20-run explosion in a win over Utah back on February 24.

Ohio State has been led by senior Noah McGowan early in the campaign. The utility player is hitting a scorching .408 with four home runs and 21 runs batted in up to this point. After a .213 season last year, this is obviously a sharp improvement in production, and one that the Buckeyes certainly hope will continue as we head closer to Big Ten play.

Other offensive bright spots include sophomore infielder Conner Pohl, who is hitting .354 with three home runs, and senior and Columbus native Tyler Cowles, who is hitting .370.

On the mound, redshirt senior Yianni Pavlopolous has been pacing the Buckeyes starters, with a 2.84 ERA through three appearances. Junior starter Connor Curlis has a 3-0 record, and Seth Kinker has been his usual bright spot out of the bullpen so far, with zero earned runs in 8.1 innings of relief.

Ohio State's homestand is something you don't normally see on schedules. The Buckeyes will play 12 games in a row at home, beginning on March 16 against Cal St. Northridge and ending with Kent State on April 4, before heading to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten road opener.

The Big Ten season runs through May 27, culminating with the Big Ten Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska.
