This evening the Blue Jackets ended the speculation of Ryan Johansen's future with the club and traded him to the Nashville Predators. In return the CBJ receive defensemen Seth Jones. The 23-year old Johansen was the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. The Predators selected Jones (21-years old) with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

From the Blue Jackets official statement on trading Ryan Johansen:

“Trading Ryan Johansen was not easy but improving our blueline has been a priority for us and to acquire a player of Seth’s caliber, you have to give up a player of value,” said Kekalainen. “We have been through a lot with Joey over the years and he has been a very good player for us. On behalf of our organization, I want to thank him for all he has done on and off the ice for our team and in our community.”

This season Johansen scored 6 goals and had 20 assists in 38 games. For the season he has a +/- rating of -4. Johansen has a -16 rating for his NHL career.

With the Jackets dead last in the NHL, 33 points, will adding a young talented defensemen turn the season around? Probably not, but Jones could be a cornerstone for the blueline and the future.
