Reading the comments this evening regarding the 2012 recruiting class retrospective reminded me of something I discovered about the NBA draft. In this case, there are folks paid a lot of money, far more than the OSU assistant coaches, to evaluate talent before the draft. You would think that they would be wonderful at this. Not!!!
The 2003 draft (LeBron, etal) is considered one of the best ever. Here is data from that draft from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_NBA_draft
1st Rd | 2nd Rd | |
Players on 2 or more All Star or All NBA teams | 4 | 0 |
Players on 1 All Star or All NBA tea | 3 | 2 |
Some nice players, other "Who the hell are they?" | 23 | 15 |
Never played a single game | 0 | 11 |
The top players in this draft were/are really good - James/Anthony/Wade/Bosh. Most of them, not so much. I had also looked at many other years and it is typical. If you go to the link, you can go backwards or forwards to look at other years.
