Here's to you if you step up and help to make youth sports possible by putting in the work to coach a team, be an assistant, manage the unglamorous behind the scenes work, or just step onto the practice field to help out from time to time.
I'll even raise my imaginary glass to those of you who truly know that you aren't fit for it, and watch from the side-lines.
To that vast bulk of parents in the middle: Step up. You're getting quite a free ride and that lonely guy or gal out there trying to run herd on 12 kids at once needs help. He needs an extra set of eyes, an extra passing foot, a spare glove, or just a person to put down or pick up cones. You don't have to have years of experience and you don't have to have played. A positive attitude and a modest ability to learn are all that your kid's coach likely needs out of you.
