Ohio State will be able to take six more players on the road this season.

The Big Ten voted Friday to expand the size of travel rosters for road games from 74 players to 80, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The change was made in response to the NCAA’s new five-in-five eligibility model, as the elimination of redshirts will give teams incentive to play more players.

Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald publicly advocated for an increase in travel roster size to 80 players at last week’s Big Ten Media Days, saying that would help away teams to “have enough depth to make sure as a road team, the playing field is leveled a little bit.” Just over a week later, the Big Ten has moved forward with that change for the 2026 season.
