We all have interacted with scUM fans over the years in some capacity as peers, friends, co-workers, neighbors or worse family. My first real encounter to share was this past week. I was on a surprise trip for a major Birthday coming up this January. As luck would have it on our trip we were paired with a scUM couple, who informed us that they won the trip as part of a silent auction. Part of the intinerary was a 2 daily excursions. We had an all-inclusive trip and would tip the driver for each excursion along with the othe3r staff who took care of us each day. We noticed that this couple was not tipping the driver. After a few of these trips I said somehting in a nonchalant way. I asked the gentleman what they were tipping to make sure that I was not under tipping. I was told that since they had an all-inclusive trip they were planning on just giving a tip at the end when they checked out. We were in a third world country and to these people they deepend on tourism to provide for their families. So I asked my second question, how would they know that the money they tipped would go to all the workers who provided service to them...drivers, bar attendants, waitresses, house cleaning and hotel attendents who assisted with their luggage. They didn't have an answer and just said, "you are doing the right thing" and I let it be and walked away. The way they said it made be doubt they would tip and the point of tipping is giving cash in appreciation not putting it on a credit card and hoping that it gets shared out. At a restaurant I tried this and was told that the owner would not give the worker the tip and would keep it so I immediately just gave cash to our server. Maybe I am wrong and many may have different opinions on tipping than myself. But we felt bad for these workers who took care of them and the fact they were scum fans made it worse.
