Ryan Day is no longer Urban Meyer's successor. He is CEO and Head Coach of "The World-Famous Ohio State Buckeyes," as Gus Johnson puts it. With one National Championship under his belt, Coach Day is a made man who is growing more Sabanesque by the day.
This thought has been developing for a while, but it completely gelled for me when cameras showed him on the sidelines late in the Grambling game. Ahead by eight or nine touchdowns, Coach Day remained dialed in, working the sideline, coaching, cajoling, teaching, correcting and all the while, looking like a young Nick Saban, serious and in charge.
It's unlikely that anyone will challenge Saban's record of seven National Championships. What is clear to me, however, is that Coach Day has a lot left in the tank. And to think that just a year ago I was part of the lunatic fringe!
