Former Ohio State quarterback Art Schlichter pleaded guilty to felony drug possession charges on Monday after an Ohio State Highway Patrolman found cocaine in his vehicle last year.

Schlichter, 65, has been sentenced to two years of probation, which will require him to submit to weekly drug testing.

It's the latest in a long line of legal troubles for Schlichter, who was already on probation after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine in 2022, when he was found unresponsive in a hotel room near Hilliard, Ohio. But it was only the latest of a long line of arrests for Schlichter, who stole money and committed check fraud to fund his gambling addiction throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

He was sentenced to two years in prison for passing bad checks in 1995, released in 1996 after 16 months, then arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison this time for stealing $8,500 in checks from his employer at the time. He was released on probation after 13 months in 1999, then landed another five years after stealing $500,000 from a dozen individuals, including his father.

Released in 2006, Schlichter claimed to have turned his life around. He publicly opposed pro-gambling legislation in Ohio and wrote an autobiography, "Busted," with the help of sportswriter Jeff Snook and began working at a Columbus radio station.

Then, in 2011, he was arrested again after conning more than $1 million from widow Anito Valko Barney and her friends as part of a ticket-buying scheme. Charged with first-degree felony theft, prosecutors uncovered that Schlichter had resumed gambling immediately after his release from prison in 2006. This time he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released in 2021, shortly before his 2022 arrest for possession of cocaine.
