Update 1: we play New Hampshire in 2027
Update 2: Delaware is now FBS
Update 3: I messed up win percentages, I included ties in denominator, now fixed
Update 4: I accidentally lumped ArizonaU with Ohio totals, updated AZ and OH
Update 6: didn't know this, but in winning percentage, you count a tie as half a win and half a loss. (thanks Matt Gutridge)
UPDATE 5: there's an error in the media guide, on the 'records by opponent' it omits Tulsa (their error) -- and on page 277, it says we're 1-0 against Tulsa (it's 2-0, won 2016 and 2021) -- there's the 2 missing games I was missing from wins totals... c'mon OSU, don't do Tulsa dirty like that
Update 7: another error in media guide, on page 267 (what I used), the list OSU's record against USC (Southern California as 9-13-1); however on page 276 they list the record as 10-13-1. This gives me 1378 games, exactly what they've played. Can't believe the media guide has errors. Fire Ryan Day.
All, if you copy paste the Record by Opponents (page 267) on the 2024 Ohio State Media Guide, you can sort by many (stupid) ways imaginable. (I added the 2024 results, and included the 2010 tattoo games, sue me)
I did the very same. I was curious, how OSU stacks up against all the other states.
First Off -- OSU has never faced a team from These States
State | Future Possibility | FBS teams | FCS Teams |
---|---|---|---|
Alaska | lol | none | none |
Connecticut | Perhaps, cupcakes | UCONN | Central Conn, Sacred Heart, Yale |
Delaware | there's a chance | Delaware | Delaware St. |
Idaho | sure, Boise gets that playoff spot | Boise St. | Idaho, Idaho St. |
Maine | I doubt it | none | Maine |
Mississippi | Why Not? | Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Miss | Alcorn St., Jackson St., Miss. Valley St. |
Montana | nope | none | Montana, Montana St. |
New Hampshire | See you in 2027 | none | New Hampshire, Dartmouth |
North Dakota | they've had a college gameday | none | North Dak., North Dak. St. |
Rhode Island | nope | none | Brown, Bryant, Rhode Island |
South Dakota | nope | none | South Dak., South Dak. St. |
Vermont | nil | none | none |
Wash D.C. | why? | none | Georgetown |
Fun Fact: Alaska and Vermont are the only states without an FCS AND FBS team.
- Alaska has 0 Div 1,2,3 or NAIA teams
- Vermont only has D3 teams, wow... get your act together
- Seriously, how has this club never faced a Mississippi team?
Next, It's time to State our case against each state.
- OSU's played 1378 games versus
127128 (added Tulsa) unique opponents from 38 states.- 1375 TOTAL Games include 2024, and 2010 'didn't count' games
- 32 of these opponents are '1 and dones'
- 9 opponents of 50 or more contests for 723 games
- The only state OSU is winless against: 0-2 Georgia the state and the team
- (let's not reminisce about the targeting non-call, please)
- Chance for that win in 2030/2031 (UGA)
- OSU is undefeated (no ties either) against 10 states
- Over 13 teams and 31 games
- including 14-0 against Maryland.
- 9-0 vs. Maryland, 5-0 vs. Navy
- The states to never beat OSU
- Arkansas, Hawai'i, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, & Wyoming
- Next year, the only 'first timer' team will be Grambling State (Louisiana)
Finally... The List. Enjoy :)
