The FedEx Field turf claimed another WAS QB in a gruesome leg injury today and now Rivera has announced that 36-year old Alex Smith who threw 3 INTs in today's game and is two years removed from a gruesome leg injury of his own will start the rest of the season with Haskins backing him up. How is that an intelligent long-term plan? This team isn't going to the playoffs so the rest of the year should be about evaluating the younger guys (and Dwayne is at the top of that list). Not to mention Smith's mobility is pretty much gone at this stage of his career and given the injury he recently returned from putting him behind that O-line is borderline malpractice. I don't think Rivera is a bad coach but the way he's managed Haskins this year has been a complete shitshow pretty much from the beginning and this just adds to it (Haskins should've been traded prior to the deadline if they're not going to play him). Alex Smith is a nice feel good story and all but with the way the season is trending they'd be better off starting Steven Montez going forward (assuming Rivera really does have such a low opinion of Haskins as a player and a person). Thoughts?
