It looked like former Ohio State linebacker Randy Gradishar might finally get the call from the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, but it wasn't to be.
Gradishar was one of 20 seniors (players who last played more than 25 years ago) who were named as finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's centennial class of 2020 – a special class of 15 former players, coaches and contributors in recognition of the NFL's 100th anniversary – but he was not among the players who were ultimately selected for enshrinement, which were announced Wednesday morning.
A six-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler during his career with the Denver Broncos, Gradishar has long been considered to be one of the best players not enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but his wait to become a Hall of Famer will now continue – and this year might have been his best shot of getting a gold jacket and bronze bust in Canton.
