After winning 13 games for the second consecutive season and winning the Big Ten championship for a third consecutive season, Ohio State's football team will be formally recognized for its accomplishments during the next men's basketball team's home game against Minnesota on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Schottenstein Center.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told Eleven Warriors last week that he felt it was important for the Buckeyes to receive a public recognition in front of their fans after a season that ended with a disappointing loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl, but was otherwise spectacular, as the Buckeyes went 13-1 and dominated most of their competition along the way.

“We need to embrace them and remind them, as difficult as that loss was, as disappointing as it was, they achieved a lot. You think about the award winners and all that and the records, so we need to embrace them,” Smith said. “We need a couple platforms – starting with the basketball game – where we bring them out, bring the trophies out and let Buckeye Nation do the same.”
