They were down 5-0 and didn’t wait.

There’s really not much to glean from a 76-5 over-matched victory, but there was one thing that we are seeing this year that I continue to like.

Every team will prepare for Ohio State as if it is their Super Bowl. It’s the most important game on the schedule...and for opponents who do not face Ohio State every year, it may be the most important game on their schedule for a decade. Miami was no different.

Miami had a couple things on offense to exploit something they had seen from the Ohio State defense and it was working earlier on.  Unlike recent seasons, Ohio State immediately made adjustments on defense and went on a 76-0 scoring run shutting Miami down completely. The last few seasons we always had to wait until halftime for the adjustments...and sometimes they didn’t come at all. Teams kept going back to the well on something they had prepared and it worked well. This year the opponent is allowed one or two series with their magic before the defense adjusts and takes everything away.

All of the opponents this season have been greatly over-matched by Ohio State...but it might be that Ohio State is really that good. We get to find out now as the Buckeyes get into the Big 10 schedule starting with a night game on the road this weekend against Nebraska.  You have to like this team's trajectory right now and I hope to see them continue to build momentum.
