THE COACHES

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer

  • 82–9 (.901) at Ohio State
  • 186–32 (.853) overall

Meyer was born in Toledo and grew up in Ashtabula. He attended the University of Cincinnati where he played football. He started his coaching career as a defensive backs coach at St. Xavier in 1985. Meyer then took a GA position with Ohio State between 1986 and 1987. His next stops were Illinois State (1988-89), Colorado State (1990-95) and Notre Dame (1996-2000).

Bowling Green (2001-02) was his first stop as a head coach. He then had stints in Utah (2003-04) and Florida (2005-10) before coming back to the great state of Ohio.

Urban Meyer is the only Ohio State coach to start his career 7–0 in The Game.

Chris Peterson

Chris Petersen

  • 47–20 (.701) at Washington (5th year)
  • 139–32 (.813) overall as a college coach (13th year)

Petersen was born in Yuba City, California. He played high school football for the Yuba City Honkers. After he graduated in 1983, Petersen attended Sacramento City College where he played quarterback for two seasons. He transferred to UC Davis where he earned a degree in psychology and education.

After a stint as the freshman head coach and receivers coach for the varsity team at UC Davis, Petersen was hired as the quarterbacks coach at Pittsburgh in 1992. After one season, he headed back west and became the quarterbacks coach at Portland State. He spent two seasons with the Vikings before joining Mike Bellotti's Oregon staff as the receivers coach in 1995.

In 2001, Petersen left Oregon to become the offensive coordinator position with Boise State. He was promoted to head coach of the Broncos in 2005 after Dan Hawkins left of Colorado. Petersen accumulated a record of 92–12 with Boise State including the 2007 Fiesta Bowl victory in which the Broncos used a hook-and-lateral and Statue of Liberty to defeat Oklahoma. When he left Boise State, Petersen won five conference titles in eight seasons.

Washington hired Petersen in 2014. After a slow start, he has guided the Huskies to three consecutive Pac-12 North Titles. He has guided Washington bowl games in all five of his seasons as head coach, but only has one victory (2015 Heart of Dallas).

Petersen has won the Paul "Bear Bryant Award (2006, 2009), WAC Coach of the Year (2008) and Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award (2010).
