The Rundown: Nebraska at No. 10 Ohio State

This will be the seventh time Ohio State and Nebraska have faced each other in football. The Buckeyes hold a 5–1 advantage in the all-time series and are 4–0 when playing the Cornhuskers in Columbus. 

Scott Frost's team beat Bethune-Cookman (45-9) last week. Nebraska has won consecutive games after starting the season with six straight losses. The Cornhuskers enter this contest with a 2–6 record. 

Against Purdue, Dwayne Haskins became the first Ohio State quarterback to pass for 400 yards in a game three times in his career. He is also set the school record for passing yards and completions in a game. Haskins is the first Buckeye quarterback to complete at least 20 passes in eight consecutive games.

THE LAST TIME...

  • Ohio State played Nebraska, the Buckeyes beat the Cornhuskers 56-14 in Lincoln last year.
  • K.J. Hill had at least 100 yards receiving against Purdue and Minnesota. The last time a WR had back to back 100 yard games was Santonio Holmes in 2005.
  • These schools faced each other in the ninth game of the season was 2016. Urban Meyer's team defeated Mike Riley's squad 62-3 in Columbus.

  • J.K. Dobbins needs 56 rushing yards to reach 2,000 for his career. When he does, it will be the first time in program history that there will be two running backs with 2,000 rushing yards on the same team. 
  • Terry McLaurin is 52 receiving yards away from 1,000 for his career. When he reaches the milestone, it will be the first time in program history that the Buckeyes will have three 1,000 yard receivers on its roster.
  • K.J. Hill is 33 yards shy of 1,500 career receiving yards.
  • Dwayne Haskins is 252 passing yards shy of passing J.T. Barrett (3,053) for third on the single season record list.
  • Haskins has only started eight games, but he is 39 yards away from 12th place on Ohio State's career passing list.

THE COACHES

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer

Meyer was born in Toledo and grew up in Ashtabula. He attended the University of Cincinnati where he played football. He started his coaching career as a defensive backs coach at St. Xavier in 1985. Meyer then took a GA position with Ohio State between 1986 and 1987. His next stops were Illinois State (1988-89), Colorado State (1990-95) and Notre Dame (1996-2000).

Bowling Green (2001-02) was his first stop as a head coach. He then had stints in Utah (2003-04) and Florida (2005-10) before coming back to the great state of Ohio.

Scott Frost was earned eight different coach of the year awards last year. He joined Chris Peterson as the only other coach not in a Power Five Conference to win the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award. In the history of college football, only four coaches have ever had a 13–0 record in their first or second season. When UCF went 13–0 last years, Frost joined Walter Camp (1888), Bob Stoops (2000) and Chris Peterson (2006) as the only coaches to do it. 

Frost started his career as a quarterback for Stanford in 1993 and 1994. He transferred to Nebraska in 1995 and led the Cornhuskers to a record of 24–2 during his time as the starting quarterback. During his senior year, Frost became the 10th player in college football history to run and pass for over 1,000 yards in the same season. Nebraska earned a share of the national title that season.

After a short stint with Nebraska, Frost was a graduate assistant at Kasnas State in 2006. He moved on to Northern Iowa as a linebacker coach in 2007. After two seasons with the Panthers, he took a job with Oregon in 2009. He was with the Ducks as their offensive coordinator when Ohio State defeated them in the CFP National Championship game. 

In December of 2015, Frost was named the head coach of Central Florida. The Knights won six games in 2016 and went undefeated last year. In December of 2017, Frost was named as Nebraska's head coach.
