Spent about 4 days 3 years ago trying to figure out the difference between these two.I thought I figured it out on my own. I understand Grey-Shirting (that's easy to understand). But over the last 36 months I've gotten really stupid when it comes to the topic in question.

In my purist mind, you either have an offer or you don't. Why offer a kid but say, "Now if we like someone better and he commits, you don't have a scholarship". Doesn't make any sense to me.
