On the face of it, the https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/CompositeTeamRankings #21 class doesn't sound so bad. That is ahead of about 100 other D1 FBS Programs. Plenty of programs do quite a bit with less talent. The class is also #3 in the big ten, which sounds about right and could be viewed as a feather in their cap given the quality of the big ten right now. So I was curious to quantify exactly how good their class was compared to ours.
Was the ranking difference big but the talent gap small? In other words were there a ton of fairly comparable classes all at the top that makes the #21 ranking look like less than it really is?
They still have 7 composite 4 star players in the class and tons of other ranked three stars so I decided to compare. And this is the result.
if you take OSU's 2018 class: ( https://ohiostate.247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/Commits )
and if we completely whiffed on (didn't sign):
Nicholas Petit-Frere
Taron Vincent
Marcus Hooker
L'Christian Smith
Tommy Togiai
Max Wray
Tyler Friday
Jeremy Ruckert
Master Teague
Josh Proctor
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Matthew Baldwin
K'Vaughan Pope
Alex Williams
Cameron Brown
And replaced them with nobody, and just went with our class of 11. We'd still be ranked 2 spots above them.

We really should be thankful Urban Meyer is on our side.
