Have any of you ever been watching a sports show and these analysts start pulling these crazy stats out? Like, "JT Barrett leads the NCAA in completion percentage on days where the temperature is 60-65 degrees, and the skies are partly cloudy, and the game is played on an even numbered date". Okay, that is probably too far-fetched but you get the point.

I've always wondered where all these stats come from. I found this College Football Analytical tool, and even though some of these stats may not mean a whole lot, I have had a great time messing around with it, and seeing where the Bucks rank. So here are some stats I found interesting.

1) Opposing kickers are making only 28.57% of their field goals. If this number holds up, it will be the worst opposing field goal against any team in the history of this stat being tracked. The next lowest is 33%, which happened 3 times.

2) Ohio State is running 52%, so more than half, of their total plays inside the red-zone. UCF is the only other school to have more than 50% of their plays take place inside the 20 yard line.

3) Ohio State's defense is holding opponents to 2.89 Yards per carry. This is extra impressive because Ohio State has played 3 teams that rank inside the top 11 in offensive yards per carry. (Army, UNLV, and Oklahoma).

4) Ohio State's offense ranks 10th in percentage of drives ending in a 20+ yard touchdown with a percentage of 14.15%. This is a 4% increase over last season.

5) Conversely, Last season, Ohio State's defense only allowed a 20+ yard touchdown on 2.88% of drives, which was good for 2nd nationally, only behind powerhouse Georgia State. This number has increased to 4.76% this season, good for 32nd nationally.

6) The advanced analytics would have Ohio State ranked 3rd. Interestingly, they would have Penn State 2nd, and Oklahoma 15th, only one spot higher than a 4-4 Texas team (ranked 16th). I can already hear this being Beck's closing statement in his next interview.

7) Ohio State is 7-1 and 2nd nationally in scoring. However, they currently rank towards the bottom of the FBS with an average time of possession of 28:47. Notre Dame is the only team ranked higher than the Buckeyes who do not have the ball for more than half the game (29:09).

8) Ohio State's young secondary, coming off of back-to-back years of losing several guys to the draft, ranks 6th nationally by allowing opponents just 5.45 yards per pass. They were ranked dead last after week 2.

9) Who needs balance? Georgia and Notre Dame, both in the top 4, rank 112th and 118th respectively, in passing yards per game. Ohio State currently ranks 11th, higher than any of the top 4 teams.

10) Last season, J.T. Barrett was sacked once every 15.6 pass attempts. This season, that number is up to 22.2. Shockingly, the 2014 Championship season saw the QB sacked once every 15.5 passes.

11) Ohio State is currently getting 57% of their yards from passes and 43% from rushes. This would be the first time in the Urban Era that more yards have came through the air than the ground. The last this happened was the 2010 season.

12) Not really a stat, but as I've been filtering through numerous stats, top and bottom, I have not seen Iowa's name once. Which tells me they are perfectly mediocre in nearly every single category, and I cannot think of a better way to describe Iowa. No big strength, and no big weakness, which usually always gives your team a chance to stay in the game.

13) Ohio State currently ranks 17th in opponent starting field position. Which, believe it or not, is an improvement over last season. However, this has everything to do with the Buckeyes scoring more touchdowns, and nothing to do with their kicking team.

14) Ohio State currently ranks 3rd in turnover differential percentage. Ohio State turns the ball over on just 6.74% of offensive possessions, and they take the ball away on 15.25% of opponent possessions, good for a 8.51% net gain.

So there you have it. Just some random stats on this Thursday. Which stat or stats do you find the most intriguing? For me, I love stat #1, just because teams are having a historically hard time making field-goals against Ohio State. However, teams have only attempted 7 field goals. So this number can drastically change with just a couple successful attempts.
