Parris Campbell:
WEEK 1 (IU): 6 rec, 136 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 3 rec, 27 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): 6 rec, 54 yds
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 3 rec, 105 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 5 (RUT): 1 rec, 20 yds
SEASON TOTAL: 19 rec, 342 yds, 2 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 18 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 68.4 yds
Campbell is the Buckeyes obvious solution to a short/ intermediate route runner that can turn a short catch into a long TD. However, Campbell seems to go through periods where he gets his hands on a pass, but drops it (I remember at least 3 drops last night, one for a TD, one on 4th down). Use him on crossing routes and shorter spacing routes. Would like to see a healthy McCall get some snaps here, as he's a more dangerous runner than Hill and has better hands than Campbell.
Johnnie Dixon:
WEEK 1 (IU): 2 rec, 65 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 1 rec, 12 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): DNP
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 2 rec, 36 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 5 (RUT): 3 rec, 115 yds, 2 TD
SEASON TOTAL: 8 rec, 228 yds, 4 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 28.5 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 57 yds
Johnnie is our best overall receiver right now, when healthy. He's averaging a ridiculous 28.5 yds a catch right now, and seems to possess both elite speed and quicks to turn a short pass into a long gain. Viable down the field option, even considering the push-off TD catch that got called back (the DB was already beat, Dixon needed to trust JT would put it in the right spot (he did) and make the play). Runs quick, efficient routes. Has problems with drops, but if he cleans those up and stays healthy, he's going to be an NFL guy before the season is over.
K.J. Hill:
WEEK 1 (IU): 2 rec, 6 yds
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 5 rec, 44 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): 8 rec, 74 yds
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 3 rec, 53 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 5 (RUT): 1 rec, 8 yds
SEASON TOTAL: 19 rec, 185 yds, 1 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 9.7 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 37 yds
Hill is our most consistent presence in the WR corps. He has some of the best hands on the team, and once he gets the hang of cutting back underneath on the jet sweep, he will be truly dangerous. Reminds me a lot of Marshall circa game 5 2014.
Terry McLaurin:
WEEK 1 (IU): 2 rec, 21 yds
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 3 rec, 30 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): 4 rec, 53 yds
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 3 rec, 22 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 5 (RUT): 5 rec, 51 yds, 1 TD
SEASON TOTAL: 17 rec, 177 yds, 2 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 10.4 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 35.4 yds
Terry is our Evan Spencer. A vicious blocker in space, and a better athlete than he's given credit for. Also seems to reel in everything thrown his way. After he showed that flash of speed against Rutgers, we need to find ways to get him the ball more.
Binjimen Victor:
WEEK 1 (IU): 1 rec, 11 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 2 rec, 17 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): 3 rec, 33 yds
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 2 rec, 12 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 5 (RUT): 2 rec, 69 yds, 1 TD
SEASON TOTAL: 10 rec, 142 yds, 3 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 14.2 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 28.4 yds
Victor is the most intriguing member of Zone 6 to me. Tall, long, and fast, with a tremendous leaping ability. I feel like Victor is rapidly improving week by week. If he can prove that Rutgers was his "turning the corner" game, he could be our go-to deep threat or redzone WR.
Austin Mack:
WEEK 1 (IU): 1 rec, 6 yds
WEEK 2 (OKLA): 1 rec, 31 yds
WEEK 3 (ARMY): 4 rec, 44 yds, 1 TD
WEEK 4 (UNLV): 2 rec, 23 yds
WEEK 5 (RUT): did not generate stats
SEASON TOTAL: 8 rec, 104 yds, 1 TD
AVG YDS/CATCH: 13 yds
AVG YDS/GAME: 20.8 yds
Mack is still lowest ranking member. Shows tremendous potential, only to disappear for series at a time. Very good blocker, and seems to catch the ball well.
Feel free to post your thoughts on the progression of Ohio State's WR corps and offense, which I think may have turned a corner last night. Excited to see this team moving forward into conference play, we seem to be getting our key pieces healthy at the right time.
