Buckeyes In The NFL Draft: AFC EAST

In 1936 the NFL held its first draft. Two Buckeyes were selected and thus began the 80 year relationship of Ohio State providing talented players to the NFL machine. This series will break down all eight NFL divisions and the teams that drafted the 416 Ohio State players.

Teams in the AFC East have selected 40 Buckeyes. 14 of the 40 were first round picks and one was the No. 1 overall selection.

New York Jets
​The Jets are in first in the AFC East and rank 13th all-time with 13 Ohio State draft picks. In 1964 running back Matt Snell became the first Buckeye to get drafted by the NFL version of the New York Jets. In 2016 linebacker Daron Lee became the last Ohio State player drafted by the Jets. With Lee's selection the Jets have selected Buckeyes in back-to-back drafts (Devin Smith in 2015).

Highest selected player
Tackle Chris Ward was the 4th selection of the 1978 NFL Draft. Ward played in 68 games over six seasons with the Jets. He finished his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints in 1984.

Darron Lee
13 Ohio State players have signed with the Jets. In 2016 Darron Lee became the latest.

Miami Dolphins
Miami is second in the AFC East and ranks 13th all-time* with 12 Ohio State draft picks. The first Buckeye selected by Miami was linebacker Bruce Elia in 1975. The last Ohio State player drafted by the Dolphins was linebacker Austin Spitler in 2010. 

Highest Selected Player
WR Ted Ginn Jr. was the 9th pick of the 2007 NFL Draft. Ginn played three years for the Dolphins. During his time with Miami he caught 128 passes for 1,664 yards and 5 touchdowns. After the 2009 season the Dolphins traded Ginn to San Francisco where he played for three seasons. Ginn is currently a receiver for the Carolina Panthers. 

Buffalo Bills
Buffalo is No. 3 in the AFC East and ranks 17th all-time with 10 Ohio State draft picks. The first Ohio State player selected by the NFL version of the Buffalo Bills was tight end Jan White in 1971. The last Ohio State player drafted by the Bills was DT Adolphus Washington in 2016. 

Highest selected player
Linebacker Tom Cousineau was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1979 NFL Draft. Cousineau never played for the Bills. When the Montreal Alouettes offered him twice as much money as Buffalo Cousineau decided to take his talent north of the border. After three successful seasons in the CFL he returned to the NFL with the Browns. Cousineau played in 66 games, had 10 interceptions and 6.5 sacks over his six-year NFL career. 

New England Patriots
The Patriots are No. 4 in the AFC East and rank 25th all-time with 5 Ohio State draft picks. In 1975 nose tackle Pete Cusick became the first Buckeye to get drafted by the NFL version of the Patriots. In 2012 defensive back Nate Ebner became the latest Ohio State player drafted by New England. 

Highest selected player
WR Terry Glenn was the 7th pick of the 1996 NFL Draft. The Columbus native was named the AFC Rookie of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 1996. Glenn played in 68 games over six seasons for the Patriots. During his 11-year career Glenn had 593 catches, 8,823 yards, 44 touchdowns in 137 games. 

Nate Ebner
The Patriots have only drafted five Ohio State players since 1967. Nate Ebner was the last in 2012.
