I am an Ohio State grad (2011) currently in my second year in graduate school at Virginia Tech. I just went for a run through campus and the surrounding neighborhoods (in an Ohio State shirt of course) to scope things out. I only saw eight Buckeye fans but honestly it doesn't seem like town is that much busier than a usual weekend yet. I know a lot of people coming into town tomorrow (there is a free Brad Paisley concert Sunday night) so hopefully Buckeye Nation shows up Sunday. I ran my best pace in a while because the mostly good-natured heckles I got motivated me. I purposefully chose a route that would pass undergraduates, off-campus party houses, athletics department employees, busy roads, and townie locations. I've also hung an Ohio State flag in my window on a busy road so everyone knows what's up.
Ohio State and Virginia Tech are two very similar universities: a large student body, a historical emphasis on agriculture, engineering, and information sciences, a passionate and knowledgeable fanbase, lots of camouflage gear, and an arrogant rival to the north with a lousy football team. It's a shame we won't get to see this matchup more often. But let's even it out Monday, because I can't stomach another Tuesday morning on campus like last year...
