Where We Stand in the Playoff Race

It's often said that it's better to lose early than late. For our Buckeyes, the cloud of the Virginia Tech loss is beginning to clear with our 116 point scoring outburst against bear defenses the past two games. We're a different team. I see that. The playoff committee sees that. This is not the BCS anymore. Humans are watching the games. We still have a good shot to make the playoffs.

The Buckeyes' offense is starting to look incredibly efficient. Those 45 first downs are impressive for our resume. If we continue to grow offensively, the Virginia Tech game will be viewed more like the MSU-Notre Dame game last year (An early loss, but the team is much better than they were then).

No one knows just how good our defense is yet. We've played an air raid, a triple option, a pro, and a cupcake spread. The results have been mixed. The defense must solidify itself in our remaining games.

If we run the table and win the Big Ten Championship, we'll be among the top 6 or so teams in discussion for the four playoff spots. What's the likelihood an 11-1 Auburn or 11-1 Texas A&M gets in over a 12-1 Big Ten champs Ohio State with wins over MSU and Nebraska? Can the Buckeyes secure a 3rd or 4th seed? It all depends on how we perform the rest of the year. We need to continue to dominate our opponents like we have the last two weeks.

My end of the regular season predictions:

 12-2 Oregon (CC)

12-0 Baylor (CC)

11-1 Oklahoma

11-2 Alabama (CC)

12-1 Florida State (CC)

12-1 Ohio State (CC)

11-1 Auburn

10-2 Texas A&M

Playoff Predictions:

1. Oregon

2. Baylor

3. Alabama

4. Ohio State
