The title, "The day ex-Oregon WR Keanon Lowe stopped school shooter" pretty much sums it up, but there's actually a lot of interesting bits outside the main narrative.

I didn't remember the name, but Lowe caught a TD against us in the National Championship. He went on to spend 4 days in the NFL as an aspiring player, then a couple years trying to break into coaching, working as an "offensive analyst" under Chip Kelly with the Eagles and Niners. Interesting to get a glimpse of that grind, as well as a view into how Kelly ran Oregon when he was there.

And then, moved by personal tragedy, he ends up coaching high school and working as a school security guard. What stood out, for me, was the way that the story shows an individual who was shaped by college football into someone who--quite apart from the incident with the school shooter--is working to make a difference in his community, who's doing remarkable things, even if it's below the radar where most of us would ever hear about it.

It's natural for us as college football fans to focus on the elite players, on the future NFL stars, but it's also interesting to see how athletics can develop kids into great adults (not saying it always does, but the potential is there).
