As sports betting starts to become legal in more states throughout the nation, the NCAA discussed the possibility this offseason of requiring college football teams to release a standardized injury report, in an effort to deter bettors from trying to seek out that information themselves.

The NCAA Board of Governors decided Wednesday, however, "that player availability reporting is not a viable option at this time," according to an NCAA release.

Ohio State president Michael Drake, who is also the chairman of the Board of Governors, said in a statement that the NCAA's membership “has significant concerns about the purpose, parameters, enforcement and effectiveness of a player availability reporting model.”

Going into his first season as the Buckeyes' head coach, Ryan Day has said this offseason that he does not intend to comment on the specifics of player injuries this season.
