I've been here on and off for a long while, and one of the recurring joke-y gripes around the forums is that it seems that OSU targets occasionally see ratings drops when they do actually commit to the Bucks: five stars become four stars, guys with a 91 value get adjusted to 89, etc. I've always rolled my eyes at the sentiment that the national pubs have it in for any team(s), but what if I'm wrong?
I came across the below-linked thread on Reddit's cfb board, and the gist is that a Maryland fan tracked that team's recent signees and noticed most dropped (a few precipitously) on or after NSD. Obviously, the season's long over and camps are too; so what would cause such large adjustments to occur now? Reading more on that thread, there's a 247 link there where Barton Simmons (a well-known recruiting analyst there) defends and explains the occurences: that the dates changes are posted aren't necessarily the exact dates rankings are re-calculated. I don't subscribe to the site, so I can't see any of it.
I wonder what 247's subscriber base looks like geographically. Do they bump up Alabama kids because there are more Tide fans paying for access to the site? Do Maryland commits get dropped because the Terps subscriber base is smaller?
