One of the more controversial recent trends in college sports, particularly in college football, could soon be coming to an end.

The NCAA announced in a press release Tuesday that the Division I Committee on Academics is moving forward with a proposal that would eliminate the ability for coaches and schools to restrict student-athletes from transferring to specific schools.

Examples of student-athletes being restricted from transferring where they want include recently enrolled Ohio State defensive tackle Antwuan Jackson, who was forced to spend a year at Blinn College before becoming a Buckeye in January after Auburn blocked him from transferring to Ohio State.

According to the press release, "the committee also reiterated its support for a concept that would allow student-athletes meeting a high academic standard — for example, a minimum grade-point average between 3.0 and 3.3 paired with progress-toward-degree requirements — to compete after transfer one time, no matter what sport the student plays."
