With the wound still fresh and the feeling of getting left at the alter for BuckeyeNation still prominent, I've been seeing/hearing many comments that due to the playoff system, the Fiesta Bowl is just a "glorified exhibition game"....even to the extent of some "fans" not being intrigued enough to watch it. Im not sure I understand why we're blaming the playoff system. It's simply due to the existence of non-championship bowl games in general. In the BCS era, 99% of the bowl games were "glorified exhibitions" with nothing on the line other than pride, yet I don't remember hearing this rhetoric. People talk about how the playoffs devalue the regular season and subsequent bowl games, but I don't see how it is any different from the pre-playoff era.
Has the importance of bowl games changed?
