What’s up guys? Been a while. I know the tens of you that have followed along have been missing me greatly. Just a quick catch up and an introduction into this next insane expedition while we wait to resume the big walk next spring.
Ive been back to work and donating a large portion of my paychecks when possible back to the nonprofit to help give us more legs when we get going again.
Recently had an issue with my shoulder at work (a cortisone shot has thus far relieved the pain so dodged a surgery for now). Also had what worried me as a potential recurrent (or new) hernia. Abdominal CT was clear. Then last Friday I was at work with a fever and somehow had cellulitis in my leg. I’d had MRSA in that left about fifteen years ago so I didn’t waste time getting seen to get antibiotics. Pain is down and so is the swelling.
Yay.
I also began trying to get myself in better shape. I’ve started a GLP-1 to try to give me some help eliminating the compulsion to eat (mostly at work) while at home. A week or so into it and mom says she can already see shirts fitting better. Now it’s time to add more strength training, road miles and dialing in how to eat enough when I don’t feel like eating. Lol.
The next hiatus adventure is a big one. Probably the toughest physical challenge I’ve endured. I am taking part in the Buckeye 200 Endurance Race 8/13-18. This race starts at Walnut Beach, and essentially traverses Rt. 45 all the way to Wellsville and back. It has a 6 day time limit. Meaning I ONLY have to manage 6 consecutive days of 55ks to finish within the cutoff. Only the equivalent of my best day on the original walk…for 6 days in a row. Mom is coming along to crew me. I wanted to try something other than just a loopy course, and it’s in the Buckeye state. So here we go!
Anyone up that way who wants to drive by and yell or throw things is more than welcome to do so!
Still have the November 48hr race thatll be a combined fundraiser for us and toys for Dayton Children’s Hospital again, as well as the Jackpot Ultras 48hr in February which will be the last ultramarathon-esque fundraiser before we hit the road again.
The departure date for the walk will be 3/14/27, the three year anniversary of our birthday as a nonprofit.
Hope you guys are doing well, and I am DEFINITELY looking forward to some football in the coming weeks.
Much Love, as always,
Joe
