[MOD Edit: Closing the thread. This is a bit of a stretch as it is inherently political. That makes it difficult to not comment in a political nature.]

This morning, FBI agents arrested Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder at his farm in Perry County. While there is yet to be an official statement, the Toledo Blade is reporting that the reason for Householder's arrest is his alleged involvement in a $60 million bribery scheme associated with last year's FirstEnergy nuclear plant bailout.

For those who may not remember, House Bill 6 was a controversial piece of legislation that entailed adding fees to all Ohioans utility bills (ranging from 85 cents for residential customers to $2,400 for big industrial factories) in order to bail out two struggling FirstEnergy nuclear power plants to the tune of $150 million a year for the foreseeable future. House Bill 6 was championed by House Speaker Larry Householder and ultimately passed after a narrow and hotly contested vote.

Interestingly, this is not the first accusation of corruption and bribery against Householder. In 2004, during his first stint as Ohio House Speaker, an anonymous memo surfaced that accused Householder and two aides of bribery and kickback schemes involving campaign vendors. The memo was turned over to the FBI, but the Justice Department declined to prosecute Householder.

A press briefing has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Columbus concerning the matter.
