Jerrie Mock took off in her 180 from Port Columbus in March 1964 and became the first women to fly solo around the world. She studied aviation at Ohio Statue University (sic) before getting married. A Newark native, she later published her memoir, Three Eight Charlie.
My faborite in the article was her landing in Saudi and the officials looking for the man flying the plane. While it was illegal for women to drive there it apparently was not for one to fly a plane.
