As a Sugar Grove (Lancaster), Ohio native living in South Carolina, I can't help notice the massive number of fellow Ohio natives / vacationers in the area. This begs further research and study! The question is: Where did the initial connection from Ohio to South Carolina begin and why does it seem to be the ideal spot for people from Ohio. For reference, there are so many Ohioans in South Carolina that they have these:

These of course are in good fun as most of us Ohio folk living in the state are of similar mindset and dialect (rural Mid-West and Southern Drawl are very similar). In fact, upon attending and completing college at The Citadel (the South's version of West Point) there was a good number of Ohio boys at the school.

What is everyone's thoughts / ideas on this subject? Have you been to SC before and what is your favorite spot? What got you down there?
