I read this series as the books came out -- historical fiction writer Jeff Shaara's four-book take on the western theater during the Civil War. Of course, Grant and Sherman were the main stars in that theater.  The last book, The Fateful Lighting, is after Grant has been put in charge of the entire army and Sherman is now in charge of the Western theater himself.  It mostly concerns his March to the Sea, and then his turn northward to come to the aid of his friend and superior Grant.

Sherman has always been a hero of mine, and I think this series has a great portrayal of this misunderstood genius. I know he is also pretty well-regarded by the members of this site. And with the game against Clemson today, I like the fact that he spends a lot of time in South Carolina in this book. He was, of course, undefeated out of conference.

If you pick any of them up, I hope you enjoy it.
