On the first of December, I got a chance to fly up to NW Ohio and help with my niece’s wedding in Defiance. I grew up in Liberty Center and have relatives all over Henry, Fulton, Defiance and Williams counties in the NW corner of the state. Farm country with small town courthouses, we would go to the big city of Toledo to see the Nutcracker. My sister and her husband took me to Bryan to see the courthouse and the Christmas decorations. As luck would have it, there was a brief snow flurry that made for a beautiful scene that my phone camera could not capture, but brought back great memories.
While visiting, I got a chance to see the tech rehearsal for the CCC CoOp Children’s’ Concert in Ridgeville Corners. In Texas now, the locals assemble tamales in a family production line, telling stories and teasing each other. Eight years ago my wife and I took our daughter to her first rock concert to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I smoked brisket and cooked hams for my men’s charity party that included a white elephant gift exchange. Everybody brought something for the pot luck and it was a lot of fun.
