Maybe I missed a previuos tribute, apologies if so, Dan Hicks passed away a few weeks ago. While many musicians in San Fran in the 60's were dropping LSD, perfecting the art of psychedelic music, Dan Hicks was quietly doing his artistic thang, playing swing, gypsy, and blues. He began his career as a drummer for the the psych-rock pioneer band the Charlatans, before breaking off and forming the Hot Licks band in 1967, becoming the opening act for The Charlatans in the Bay Area. He graced the cover of Rolling Stone Mag in '73. A good bud of mine in the Bawmore/Annapolis area, Tom Mitchell(The Blue Rhythm Boys),would often be in Dan's lineup when playing the East coast shows. He passed from cancer some two weeks ago. I am currently working on a portrait of Dan, for myself. RIP Mr. Hicks
