Beck comes to Tampa after three seasons as head coach at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers fired Beck on Nov. 30 following a 59-10 loss to James Madison, which capped a three-game losing streak to end the regular season at 6-6. Beck led Coastal Carolina to an 8-5 record in 2023 and a 6-7 mark in 2024, finishing his tenure with a 20-18 overall record.
Before his time in Conway, Beck served as NC State’s offensive coordinator from 2020-22 and previously held coordinator roles at Texas (2019), Ohio State (2015-16) and Nebraska (2011-14).
During his first season with the Buckeyes in 2015, Beck was co-offensive coordinator of an offense that averaged a disappointing 35.7 points and 434.1 yards per game despite featuring Cardale Jones, J.T. Barrett, Ezekiel Elliott, Michael Thomas, Braxton Miller, Curtis Samuel and several other weapons. Offensive coordinator Ed Warinner called plays that year.
Ohio State’s production improved in 2016 to 42.7 points and 459.2 yards per game, but the offense often struggled in marquee matchups, including a 17-16 home loss to Michigan State and a 31-0 shutout loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
