College basketball history was made on Friday night.

The University of Maryland Baltimore County became the first 16 seed to ever beat a 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, defeating the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament – and in convincing fashion – defeating Virginia, 74-54.

As has become customary for a winner in the NCAA Tournament this year, UMBC celebrated its win by advancing its name in the bracket during its postgame locker room celebration.

The Retrievers' stunning, first-of-its-kind win on Friday night came in the 136th all-time NCAA Tournament matchup between a No. 16 seed and a No. 1 seed since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
