LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — It is a tradition for University of Maryland, College Park students to leave offerings for the Testudo statue in front of McKeldin Library for luck during finals.
But, to the chagrin of students who idolize the iconic figure, the statue caught on fire at some point Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
University officials say they believe the incident was accidental.
Is this considered "accidental" in the same way Lane Kiffin's employment at USC is now considered "accidental"? How is it possible to accidently catch A STATUE on fire?
