Which of Michigan's late game decisions was most baffling?

It was all very baffling & all very enjoyable too. There goes the UM SOS thing, but still, that shit was pure, amazing, football comedy.

Michigan reporters are also freaking out about letting them convert 3rd and 15 with ten minutes left in the fourth quarter by playing prevent defense.
OSU coaches, pay attention please.

Hard to distinguish between degrees of ineptitude.

mgoblog is melting with calls for Hoke's head. Luckily their bittersweet tears will help put out the dumpster fire that is Michigan football.

To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.

I can only pick one? Makes me want to create another username just so I get another vote.

Was looking for "All of the Above".

I picked punting from the PSU 35 with just seconds left. So many options to choose from though. Crazy game.

The play calling when all scUM had to do is kick a field goal was mind-boggling. I get that you don't want to take a major risk there, but that had the feel of "not even trying" to get a first down. It was Walrus-like in its blatant conservatism.

How weird was Michigan last night that there are so many great choices?

I went with Gardner's spike. Michigan punting on PSU's 35 is so impulsively paleolithic, but Gardner spiking a ball on a stopped clock is some next level unawareness.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing.

The punt.

Because I was happily swimming in the thought that those fans must have been going apesh!t by that point.

They gave them the ball, hoping field position would triumph.

But they gave PSU the ball. And PSU tied it.

Plus the fact there was so much fail yet to come in the extra stanzas.

Bye weeks suck, but yesterday was awesome.

Upvote for the last point, Hovenaut.

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

The results are pretty telling. Everything they did was stupid.

No use in me saying "Ditto."

Basking in the wake of mediocrity.....

Looks like BTN is going to re-live this atrocity at 11 AM. I think I'll just tune in from the fourth quarter on.

Wait. What????? Are you serious? "Spiking the ball with the clock stopped"? <----That actually happened? I must have missed that.
I was flipping from the BGSU choke vs. Mississippi State to the TTUN/PSU game and back and must have missed this gem!
I think I may have to stroll over to the Free Press and enjoy the melt down.

I missed it too!

Get the kicker off the field! 10/6/2012

You can't spell chump without UM's picture

I went with settling for the field goals. The 1st overtime I can see why, but after that, when you have a kicker who's missed 2 straight field goals, you have to take some chances and try to get a TD. I seriously thought that Bollman was calling plays for the Wolverqueens.

Brady Hoke ate my comment

I went with the continuous handoffs to Fitz. He wasn't doing anything when he had the ball, so I just don't understand what they expected to happen.

My top choice wasn't on the poll (taking a delay of game with a timeout in his pocket).

I went with spiking it with the clock stopped because that was weird, and because a lot of what he did was just conservatively playing the percentages. Penn State's offense did nothing in the second half until that final drive.

HA!! I though that the 2 delay of games were classic too! But I'm not sure they were decisions made by choice. hehe.

Why have the few M*chigan posters on here been so quiet? I'm dying to hear their opinions on the dumpster fire that is Wolverqueen football!

Where is the 'all of the above' option?

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

Punting the ball from the 35 was the right call. Poor execution put it on the 20 rather than inside the 10. Sitting on that 1st FG in OT was the killer.

Coach Tressel watched Hoke punt from the 35 and thought..."my gosh that is conservative.."

Just can't understand the punt in that situation...you have to try and kick that there. If for nothing else, to show your kicker you are confident in him. Even if he misses, you showed you believe in his ability to get the job done in a pinch. I wonder if that had any bearing on his struggles to close it out in regulation and overtime. Not saying it did...but worse case scenarion was miss ths field goal, penn state ties it and leaves enough time to set up for a game winner. No harm done in throwing gibbons a bone there and not crushing his confidence.

On a side note, how ballsy was hackenberg on that last drive...threw a couple passes a veteran might not even throw in that situation. Pretty clutch for a freshman.
