Gorgeous weather in the form of plentiful sunshine and pleasant fall temperatures beset Columbus on Wednesday, the middle of the workweek as Ohio State readies for its first Big Ten road affair of the 2016 season.

The No. 2 Buckeyes are set to travel to No. 8 Wisconsin for a showdown with the Badgers under the lights at Camp Randall Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET.

Urban Meyer met with reporters briefly following Wednesday's practice to give updates.

NOTES:

  • The environment around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center is "workmanlike." But he is sure his players are excited: "It's a work day though. We have to get things done."
  • The atmosphere in Camp Randall "was pretty nuts" in 2012 as a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
  • Historically it's been the case that his offense is at its best when it's running uptempo: "We've had a good conversation about that. That's part of the game plan."
  • Dante Booker remains questionable with his sprained MCL. The injury is worse than expected as it includes a sprained PCL.
  • Meyer reiterated he trusts Luke Fickell with recruits from Central Ohio: "When he calls me and says 'we need to take him' the answer is usually 'sure.'" Meyer said Robert Landers is the perfect example.
  • "He's a quick-twitch, go-hard guy. He's hard to get up underneath of. He's athletic." — Meyer on Landers.
  • Asked about the touch-pass and where it's gone, Meyer said defenses are preparing and taking that away more than ever.
  • On the 2014 Big Ten Championship Game, Meyer said that it "feels like it was 10 years ago."
  • Wide receiver Corey Smith is out this week with a "wrist injury." He added that Smith also did not play last Saturday against Indiana.
  • Meyer thinks Camp Randall "is one of the great environments" in college football. He credits their students for making the noise and moving the stadium during overtime in 2012.
  • Asked about Tim Tebow, Meyer is "pulling for him" in his former quarterback's plight to play pro baseball.
  • Asked about the signs posted on the locker room doors saying 'the most prepared team will win the game,' Meyer said he does that for big games like at Oklahoma and this week: "Against a good team on the road, you better be focused on the task at hand. Laser-like focus."
