Braxton Miller and Jalin Marshall Spent Their Friday Night Getting Better

We're in the dreadful part of the off-season where the main cause for players making headlines is by getting arrested.

Throughout Braxton Miller's career at Ohio State, however, he's proven he's not that kind of guy.

Last night, with Comfest raging and another summer weekend just beginning, one of the biggest celebrities in Columbus went to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to work on his craft. He wasn't alone.

Braxton has raved about the weapons with which he'll be surrounded in 2014, and of all the possible candidates, Jalin Marshall is a man who is often forgotten.

Marshall, a four-star burner from Middletown, was redshirted last year and is coming off a torn meniscus that cost him a majority of spring ball. It looks like he'll be ready for fall camp.

Miller also tweeted during the week that he's put some extra work in with another burner, Dontre Wilson. This is all on top of his continued work with George Whitfield, "the QB Whisperer."

While this is all glorious news for Ohio State fans, it can't sit well with Big Ten defensive coordinators. A fully-weaponized Braxton Miller is almost upon us.

Yes but one time he was in an old track jacket at a party in Los Angeles with James Harden and I'm not sure if this makes up for it or not.

Based on Dennys post history, I would assume so. He is a quality contributor.

I'm assuming some people didn't get it because he has 3 down votes.

As Denny once explained to me, they fell into a sarchasm.

Denny once dropped this on me when I didn't catch his tone. I've been ashamed ever since.

Did you see what Miller was wearing that night? I don't think the post is sarcastic.

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

If Braxton is 6'2'' there's no way Jalin is 6'!

Braxton is probably a little taller than 6'2" while Jalin is probably 5'11".

Can you imagine how disproportionately huge the head on a Braxton Miller bobblehead will be when they make one?

With the way the o'bannon vs. NCAA trial is going, he might eventually be able to keep some of the proceeds. (And not be suspended for it)

I hope we get to see Jalin on the field this year.

How is Jalin going to be used? Between him, Wilson, Samuel curious how they all will fit and see touches. Would love to see Jalin and Brax in the backfield at the same time.

Samuel plays RB not where dontre and jalin play. The only other guy I can think of in their position would be cambell jr. But he will like redshirt.

Good question, I'm not too sure of the answer. Hopefully as a WR, maybe splitting time with Wilson in some capacity. I don't really see him in the backfield too much given our depth. . . Camp will answer some questions and define some roles, no doubt.

Yeah, probably the H back. He's too small to be a RB, played QB in flexbone offense (might be scout team QB for the first game) so his WR skills might not be up to par yet but I could see him ending up there, dependent on his development

Two truly dedicated Buckeyes working late on Friday.  I think all the mental reps during the Spring and the hard work Braxton is putting in now will contribute to a noticeable progress jump come season's open.  I'm also very impressed with Jalin, looking forward to him developing into a great Buckeye.

The sad part, stories like this one will never make national headlines. Nice to read an article about two quality young men working hard and making the Buckeyes better.

Braxton is continually becoming one of my favorite players to ever play for Ohio State. And it's stories like this that make him an awesome person too.

I know these guys are 18-22 year old young men at a university that affords a lot of ways to be distracted (and I'm sure we all remember what we did at that age, with those "opportunities"!), but I think the "Urban Effect" is permeating the culture of the Buckeyes: If a player is not in class or studying, he might be more likely found at the WHAC than a bar (and I'm not against these guys relaxing and doing what college kids have done for centuries). I have to believe that the players today know the hammer of the football gods will fall hard and fast on them if they're caught "actin' the fool", though!

Even more impressive IMO, is seeing your best player, your QB, your leader, doing it by example. Props to Brax (and Jalin).

I laughed so hard when I read your post JBuck! Yeah, I've read some translations of old manuscripts of student activities at the University of Paris, Oxford and other places 300 - 400 years ago. Believe me, they were drinking and womanizing as hard as any modern college kids! Gives us all hope for the future...

Yep.  College kids have found ways to entertain themselves for, literally, centuries.

Of course, back then, they didn't have to hit the textbooks as hard.

Talent, experience, work ethic, etc. is not the question with Braxton.  All of his magnificent ability doesn't do any good when he is in street clothes on the sidelines for 3 games.  He has to stay healthy - or play through some injuries.  His history says that Jones and/or Barrett will have to win a few games for the Bucks.

I don't know if it's the shirt Brax has on in the picture, or the camera angle, or what, but it's not very flattering for a guy I know is ripped.  I won't even say what I'm thinking that picture makes him look like.

Squirrel Master's picture

Braxton was healthy his freshman year. His sophomore year he was slight and easy to tackle which made him injury prone.
But what happened last year was a miniscus tear from being tackled in the backfield. Its not like he was being reckless running around. He is bigger and more solid now and is harder to injure. The injury last year was a freak situation, not his fault. And after that he played every game. Including the orange bowl with an obvious shoulder injury. So I have no idea why you are saying he needs to play through injuries because he DOES!

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

I thought he had an MCL, not a meniscus.  Maybe Jalin had a meniscus tear.

He needs to develop a chemistry with at least one receiver.  Kind of like Rice/Montana.  I know he and Thomas work well together but it always helps to have a back up guy.  Marshall would do just fine.  Ready to see what this guy has.

lwitters's picture

Throughout Braxton Miller's career at Ohio State, however, he's proven he's not that kind of guy.

This can't be overstated.  He may not have brought home the biggest of prizes yet (though he still has time to do so), but he has never brought anything but good press to OSU.  I think sometimes this is overlooked because he doesn't publicly flaunt how good of a person he is like a former UFM quarterback that comes to mind.

Hope brax puts it all together this year-  it's good to see him putting in te extra work with Whitfield and the rehab.  We saw some good nfl throws last year and some not so good throws, so this will be it.

Hopefully he can pass more and distribute to our endless treasure chest of freak skill athletes an dinky run when we need it, like ripping out the defense's heart on '3rd and thought you stopped us'

Two things.  I think Braxton wanted to go pro this year and was suprised when his draft grade came back.  Second working with the QB wisper is good news I felt last year it helped him a lot.  He just couldn't maintain it the whole year.  He looked like a diff qb during the first half of the season last year. I'm hoping the extra work this offseason he can maintain the pace all season.  Its awesome that on a Friday night he is at the office getting in more work.

Sometimes I wish the quarterback whisperer would spend a few minutes teaching Braxton to slide feet first when he's in the middle of the field and defenders are closing in.  Especially when he already has a first down.  Four more plays and no injuries.  Even pro quarterbacks slide once in a while.

So I'll be the fly in the ointment. 730pm on a Friday isn't what I would call 'late'...especially when schools out and there isn't shit else to do.

that said, no matter what the time I give Braxton credit for trying to build rapport with some receivers that he'll rarely see in live-fire situations. This will be beneficial to both guys but Jalin more than he might realize.

You think he will rarely play with Jalin?  He might not be the starter but he is the second string h-back which is Meyer's most important receiver position. Also, even though 247 is not nearly as reputable as 11w, this link further supports that Jalin will be very much in the mix.

FYI, Brax has a baby and wife at home. I doubt he went out afterwards to anything more than food at a sports bar or on campus. I don't think Brad parties hard. And just because he was out with Harden doesn't mean he was out till 2am and drunk.

They only posed for the picture, then went to comfest. They don't even look sweaty. (This is mobile sarcasm).

Part of me misses comfest. The other part of me doesn't miss the smell of patchouli and b.o.

Glad Jalin's knee apparently feels better. I had little doubt that with that injury, the staff at the hospital, and the quality of the physical therapy program at the university that he would have many issues. It's a top notch educational program for students so you know they're applying that to their athletes as well.
