Are You a Current OSU Student and Big Fella? Ohio State Football Needs You

Are you a big fella who is also a current OSU student? Do you want to be mauled by the likes of Joey Bosa, Noah Spence or Taylor Decker on a daily basis?

Then today is your lucky day.

A football team can never have too many massive bodies, and Ohio State's Director of Player Personnel, Mark Pantoni, has put out the bat signal for those bodies to fill some walk-on spots on the football team. Those fitting the description just need to get their massive frame to the football office.

This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The position coaches, Larry Johnson Sr. and Ed Warinner, are some of the top professionals in their area as well.

This is what we're resorting to? Greaaaaat. I was trying to stay optimistic about our O-line with Warriner in charge but it's hard to feel positive about a near desperation move like this.

Near desperation move? Were they advertising for the starting Left Tackle spot?

Do you realize that the practice squad/walk ons play a seriously important and integral role in the success of the program?

This isn't desperation, Programs often ask/invite students to try out and take the ones who are physically able to and committed to helping the program. This is about getting practice reps for the scholarship players and also fielding a competitive practice squad so that our team can prepare each week against a squad capable of replicating the opponents game plan.

Calm down.

Unfortunately I was serious initially. I hadn't realized they were more or less going to be training help only. Obviously I knew we weren't looking for starters by any stretch but after I read this, I had assumed they were looking for more bodies to add depth to an already young, inexperienced line. Oops

We don't have endless amounts of scholarships so I have no issue with this.  I'm sure you'd need a fair amount of skill to get selected.

They are simply trying to set the stage for a "rags-to-riches" movie script for 2025...duhhhhh.  Calm down and pop in the movie, Invincible, and all your fears will subside.

Refer to.Rudy. Able and willing students who are willing to get their heads kicked in so the real team.can get reps without risking injury to scholly players. Best thing about walk on practice squad guys, the coaches dont care if they get hurt...line straight outta Rudy

Will they take a 5'9" 180 lb junior just on the wrong side of 30? I have all my eligibility left, am pretty lean and have plenty of room for growth on my frame.

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

Can we get season tickets for this? To me, it would be well worth the pain!

Will they take a 6'3" 206lb 29 year old guy that graduated 3 years ago and gets winded walking to his mailbox?

I was thinking the same thing - I'm 6'3" and 305... I can take a solid thrashing from a few young bulls even though I've just cracked 30... I'm happy to take some graduate classes if they need me.

I have a feeling this is another way to get the student body interested in supporting their football team.  Remember the "call" for fast players to race the team in the spring?  Same thing.

Did we ever give a walk-on offer to the fast-as-hell guy at the spring game that gave our fastest players a close race?
