Shooting Guard
Baltimore, Maryland
Mount St. Joseph
AAU: Baltimore Elite
Ht: 6'2"
Wt: 165 lbs.
Class: 2013 (High School)
Strengths:
Whether it's with his high school or travel team, Williams gets cast in the role of scorer, specifically shooter. Leave him open and he's nailing the shot. Moves exceptionally well so he'll get lost and then boom, count it. Prefers to work the baselines where he can get loose. Quick reflexes help him get his shot off in tight spaces.
Weaknesses:
There's a long and storied history of thin wings turning into players. From Juan Dixon to the Curry's, Eric Maynor and C.J. McCollum to name a few. Williams is as skinny or skinnier than everyone on that list. He's also got as much leaping ability as one can pack into his frame. If he puts on weight, that would be huge but he doesn't have a body that translates to 25 more pounds. Therefore, he must maximize the muscle he has. Long term he may want to develop point guard attributes so he can make himself more of a threat. He doesn't pass enough to show what he can do as a play maker.
Bottom Line:
He's one of the most difficult evaluations because of his body style. He's going to encounter problems defensively at the highest level because of his size. He's also going to shoot the ball well enough to be a factor. The question is: highest level mid-major or niche high-major prospect? He'll have to make that decision on his own as he'll have both options.

Skinnier than Steph Curry my nuts.

kameron shoots 85 % from the free throw line, that is great.
i definitely think his ceiling is higher than niche player at a big time program, i think he can be an effective 2nd option or possibly first with a growth spurt, this kid gets buckets, shooting, driving, finishng, 3's, pull up, mid range hes got it all. they also expect him to be a combo guard so thad told him he'll need to work on his handling some . and that area in the country produces some of the top talent for basketball i have high hopes for him.

saw one acc fan comment somewhere , thank god he is not going to be playing in the acc, or something to that effect lol.
He is skinny but he already has the game to be successful. That tear drop in the lane is good enough. I like that he has a mid range game to go along with his outside shot. Keeps defenders honest. He doesn't have an explosive game (explode to the basket, quick first step) but he is very fluid. A scorer like that is very helpful to have. He has enough athleticism to dunk easily so the potential for getting stronger is there. Needs to get better at dribbling. I saw way too much high dribbling. He will get turnovers if he doesn't fix that.
But that tear drop is what is going to make us go nuts in 2 years or so! He could put up 30 easily with that.
Coach Matta plans to transition Kam Williams to also be a point guard as well as a 2-guard. Some folks say Kam is only a 2-guard. Right now, mainly he is b/c that is what he plays on his HS team. But the plan Thad and Kam both have is to where he can play both positions. This was discussed in his recruitment and that is the plan. He is a smart kid with really good skil level. However, Kam has to learn how to shoot left handed layups and left hand dribbling skills. He needs to work on that ASAP.
Looks like a great shooter. Hopefully he develops his ball handling and can play some point. Although, small SG can be successful in college. He kind of reminds me of Juan Dixon.
