2017 Wide Receiver Trevon Grimes Has Ohio State on Top

Mike Rockstedt is the newest member of the team, serving as a recruiting analyst. Some of you got a chance to meet him last week, but if this is your first encounter, please give him a warm welcome. You can follow him on Twitter at @M_Rockstedt11W.

In recruiting, it is never too early to get a jump start on a particular class year. More than a dozen offers have already gone out for the 2017 class, and Ohio State already has one commitment in Danny Clark.

Class of 2017 wide receiver Trevon Grimes, who plays for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida, picked up an offer from Ohio State after an impressive showing at Friday Night Lights.

Grimes, who was recently named to the MaxPreps.com sophomore preseason All-American Team, has been on Ohio State's radar for a long time before receiving the offer. He recently visited Ohio State and came away more than impressed.

When asked what he loves most about Ohio State, Grimes said it was the atmosphere. "I got to check out the facilities and meet the coaches. I sat down with Coach Smith and Coach Meyer for a while about the program and how Ohio State could be my new home."

After participating in the camp, Grimes said Friday Night Lights was a good experience and he especially enjoyed meeting the head lady.

"The best part of the camp was getting to shake hands with Urban Meyer's wife, Shelley," Grimes said. "Meeting her was a blessing and not everyone got that chance. Coach Meyer called me out of a drill, brought me over to her, and introduced us."

And just when you thought Urban was the top recruiter in his household.

Grimes has had a lot of help along the way in his recruitment from teammates at St. Thomas Aquinas who are now going through the process. Some of his high-profile teammates include Devante Peete, Sam Bruce, Jordan Scarlett and Nick Bosa. According to Grimes, they have been helping him to be patient throughout the process and take it slowly.

Bruce, who recently committed to play football at Miami, has been the biggest help. They are good friends and Sam has been a mentor to Grimes on how to handle the process. He also hopes to become better friends with Bosa, the younger brother of Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa. "It definitely helps a lot that these guys are going through this process right now," Grimes said.

There is still a long, long way to go in Trevon Grimes' recruitment; he is a sophomore and he has no timetable for a decision. Nevertheless, Ohio State is his leader and it's always best to be out in front, no matter how early in the process.

One school that fans hope Urban Meyer creates a pipeline with is St. Thomas Aquinas. They are, year in and year out, the best high school football team in the nation, while sending most of their players to some of the best Division I football programs.  With Joey Bosa already here and Ohio State being the favorites for Nick Bosa and Trevon Grimes, St. Thomas Aquinas could become one of Urban Meyer's biggest pipelines.

We could have our receivers dishing out some pancakes too.  Wouldn't that be tasty???

Isn't Cris Carter an assistant or volunteer coach at that high school, I bet that helps some with the recruiting.

With Coach Meyer recruiting, you are going to need a bigger pipeline.

If anyone knows how to lay the pipe, it's UFM.

HUGE pipeline

You can feed a bobcat all the chili it wants. That don't mean it's going to crap out diamonds.

I think we're going to need a bigger wrench, coach.

The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.

Any relation to NFL player Brent Grimes?

If he was 6'4" as a Freshman I wonder how big he's gonna be when he gets to college.  Great to see such a talented receiver not too proud to block for teammates.

Champions.  Undisputed.

At least 6'6", I suspect.

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

If you can't win your conference, just quietly accept your non-playoff bowl game.

Good write up Mike. Getting a permanent foothold into St. T&A would be huge. The talent in that program is absurd.

The road to nowhere leads to me...

Welcome aboard Mike and thanks for the excellent story!!!  The myth about kids not wanting to come play up north because of the weather is going to be permanently dismantled by Urban and OSU soon if it isn't already!!!

I've been told by many, many people I look like Edward Snowden.

I've told them all maybe it's not a coincidence, comrade.

So many things I wanted to say, but none of them make me giggle as much as reading that did, so well played sir. This round goes to mother Russia.

I believe the SEC players put their pants on one leg at a time like we do.

As an addendum here, Grimes was picked as the country's top WR for the 2017 class in the initial release of the 247Sports.com Top 100 and the 10th-ranked player overall in that class. Hard to pull any player from Florida, but getting involved as early as the Buckeyes have here is a great place to start.

Hard to believe I'm 10 years older than this kid.

I really like how physical this kid seem's to be, not just in his running, but more importantly in his blocking! The kid doesn't seem to mind putting his blocking assignment into the dirt! LOVE seeing that out of anyone, let alone a WR! AWESOME!!
