Stoney Dropping Reminder Bombs

By Chris Lauderback on February 23, 2013 at 10:25a

Asked at the NFL Combine about The Rivalry, Stoneburner quickly announced with a smirk, "I got four pairs of gold pants."

Preparing for the NFL Draft at Performance Enhancement Professionals in Scottsdale, alongside former Wolverines Craig Roh, Kenny Demens and J.T. Floyd, Stoneburner took the opportunity to get in some verbal jabs:

"There were three Michigan guys there, and they had nothing to say because I had four pairs, and they beat us one time, and it came on a down year -- and they barely even beat us that year. The last one, to end my senior year, at home, beating them, going 12-0 -- that's something I'll never forget."

Informed he had erroneously lumped in former Sparty William Gholston with the group of Wolverines, Stoneburner replied:

"I guess that's Michigan State. Same area -- still sucks."

Now that is why I love Stoney. That was awesome, haha.

Love me some Stoneburner. Wish he had got more touches this year but he was still probably my favorite personality from the team.

How firm thy friendship..

Wish he had got more touches this year

I was really expecting a big year from him in Urban's system.

The M-Live comments are hilarious. M*ch*g*n fans - the definition of arrogance! Always bringing up the overall record instead of concentrating on modern day football where the game was played with more than leather helmets.
Yes M*ch*g*n, your program was freaking sweet during the leather helmet era and before the forward pass!! You should always bring that up as a point since it's soooooo relevant!

Well if they focused on recent history, it would lead to depression.

northcampus's picture

They're getting desperate.  The Buckeye program has passed them up as the gem of the north and they absolutely cannot handle being a consolation prize, especially to their bitter rival.
Continually bringing up past glory days is something that exposes their current shortcomings even more.  Michigan fans are the old men at the neighborhood sports bar who still think their high school football achievements are what they should be measured by.  Live in the present and deal with reality like an adult.

That guy was a 5 star recruit out of High school.  Once saw him score 4 touchdowns in a single game.  Too bad he married that red head it all went down hill after that.  Last seen in a mall outside chicago selling shoes.

Wow J.MO way to completely disregard the fact that they had to play an extremely difficult Ann Arbor High School team back in those days.

Citrus's picture

Yeah can't believe he'd wear such s&g glasses. I mean that Ann Arbor hs team was considered the best football team in Ann Arbor at the time. It was an amazing upset. It featured freshmen sensation Larry "lateraling leather" McGwin, and Bernie "Brace-Face" McGillicuddy

Cajun, thank you so much for this picture. I am going to give it to all my PSU friends

I'm just happy they watched the whole game. Turning and looking the other way is usually their go-to move.

Ohhh wait! There it is! Directlyto the right of the hefty, Rob Reiner looking fella is someone doing the "Penn State Shuffle". Notice the eyes down, buried into the face...Classic Penn State!

I prefer the girl way on the left middle who is obviously looking the other way.

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...

Probably my favorite image from the 2012 season. The sadness, anger, and depression on those faces is beautiful...

I was sitting in that endzone just to the left of this pic jumping up and down like a nut during this play. Needless to say the Penn State faces in this pic are priceless

We were born to love Ohio State and hate that team up north.

I bet all of the butt hurt scUM fans were loving it when scUM captain Walter Smith said the following before the 1994 game:  "We want to get Cooper fired," Smith said. "That's what I want to do. We want to keep on beating them and beating them until he's not there."
Now that the shoe is on the other foot they suddenly become holier than thou.

The way the big guy pulled away from their DBs (esp. S #27) left me thinking' "what if" .  Burner indeed.

lippertini's picture

In all fairness to PSU, it does look like #12 at the bottom of the screen was gaining yards on him quite nicely.  He had no chance at all to catch Stoney from his position, so I wonder if he was just running to check his speed vs. Stoney's on the film later.

buckeyedude's picture

He had an angle on Stoney.

buckeyedude's picture

What's really funny, is that watching this video, PSU's DBs(generally the fastest players on any given team) cannot catch our TE.

Kalamazoo Steve's picture

Thanks SGT. That's a freaking TE out running an entire secondary. And folks wonder why we dominate.

Ahh Saturday's picture

That's really a beautiful ball from Braxton, and shows what he's capable of throwing the ball. All he needs is consistency, then watch out.

SilverState's picture

My thoughts exactly.

ATLBuckeye09's picture

What's funny is the posts of the scUM fans in response to this story. The usual Tressel & Urbz are the biggest cheaters of all time. Oh lil RR was so bad you took advantage of that time period. Yada yada yada! I got some great laughs. We will dominate them for the next 10 years and they know it deep down inside and it is KILLING them!

Because they wouldn't let me go for 3!

steensn's picture

I am no sure I would be talking so much crap had I remembered I only caught one pass for 9 yards ;P
I love Stoneburner and all, but thinking of it from their side they have a strong case to mock him as well...

J.Mo's picture

... and football isn't an individual sport but rather a team sport. Can't measure everyone's contribution in stats - especially where Jake excelled by be being an excellent blocker.

steensn's picture

I'm just saying that they had a comeback if they wanted it. Jake was supposed to emerge as a pass catching TE and he didn't. Why, I have no idea... just pointing out the fact if I were him I'd hold back a bit. Hope he kills it at the combine and shows as much or more promise than other OSU TE's

sathey's picture

I wouldn't hold back! He has 4 pairs of Gold Pants! Stats mean nothing! It's if you win or lose The Game!

This is one of the best threads I have read in a long time. How we got from zinging *ichigan to hammering PSU I don't know but it is all good. Classic  picture of Stoney in PSU endzone.

Its good to be the king

That's great!  Put those people from that state in their place, son.

Knarcisi's picture

Looks like Stoney is having a nice combine.

ShowThemOhiosHere's picture

People on that board are quick to point out that 3 of the 4 wins Stoney had over TSUN were in TSUN down years.  Yeah, here's the difference.  In those 3 TSUN down years, OSU dominated TSUN each time - two 30+ point wins in Columbus and an 11 point win in Ann Arbor.  In the 1 OSU down year, TSUN was a Braxton overthrow to Posey away from losing at home.
When you bring up the all-time record card and the cheaters card, you know you have no argument and your rival owns your ass.

Comeback for scum fans when they bring up the all time record ... We have owned you during your lifetime, that's all I care about.
( in my lifetime -circa 1960- OSU 28 - 23 - 2 and no i don't vacate 2010 because we still beat them on the field)
comeback for Tressel is a cheater... FAB FIVE $$$$

Our arch rivals.... 11 National Championships, 10 before 1949 - eight of eleven shared. Trying to respect them... trying.... Ugh!
