What does this Zach Smith tweet mean?
So, uhh... What could this possibly mean?
The #GAMECHANGER!!!! BigTime Day for #BuckeyeNation - 12 Months from now The HorseShoe will change forever!!! Número Uno!!! #THETakeover
— Zach Smith (@CoachZachSmith) February 14, 2013
A quick rundown of our best guesses from most to least likely:
- Permanent lights for the Shoe.
- A new event, Valentine's Night Lights, with speed dating events for the singles in the Ohio State athletic department (complete with Barry White blaring through the stadium speakers).
- A stadium expansion of some sorts, closing the gap on or – gasp – surpassing the capacity of Michigan Stadium.
- Announcement of beer for sale in Ohio Stadium.
-
Removal of the FieldTurf... to be replaced by
shagswag carpeting. - Grand opening of the Blue Danube, Horseshoe location.
What did we miss?

I would say number three only because of his last statement in Spanish "number one".
Pretty big project to be completed by next February. If they're just going to announce a project like that next February, it's hard to believe Smith has a 12-month scoop on the news.
Darn-it Jason, then don't give me that option. :0)
Could be announcing it in the fall and starting next February in time for 2014 season?

I won't list my credentials, but they're very relevant......there is no way you can vastly expand the seating capacity of the Shoe and be done by February 2014 if you intend to play games in the Shoe next season.
I've put a lot of thought into this one when I was bidding on the Press Box Expansion Project.

Actually, I'd say that the inclusion of Spanish hints towards the opening of a Taco Bell inside the 'Shoe... Or possibly El Vaquero?

Oh how I miss the 'Dube!
My money's on permanent lighting. Especially following the meetings announcing November night games.

Maybe I live in Canada, you don't know
You think you like beer?
Happy Valentine's Day, beer.
I'm guessing 1 and 3. Expanding the Shoe to fit 120,000(and doing it the right way, no gallon of paint and halfing the size of the seats), and putting in permanent lights for those November night games.
Adding 15-20k seats might not even be possible with the current structures. But maybe they'll be doing some structural upgrades with the current work they are doing causing the spring game to be moved?
If forced to bet, my money's on lights.

Good thing we only need like 10k seats, and some of that was lost with the club seats and box suites.

^ that would be my guess.

This is the rest of us judging you.
Night games are contrived creatures, made for TV, and don't belong in somewhere as storied as Ohio Stadium on a regular basis.

I do worry what permanent lights would look like, especially since I prefer the modern day Ohio Stadium's look. I really love night games at the shoe, but hopefully they don't sell out and make the stadium ugly and/or have us play Tuesday night 'primetime' games...
I've got a feeling the staff will make good choices for the betterment of the program!

Nebraska has been verified as the best recruiting atmosphere for a game experience, bar none, according to the staff. Enough said.
I dont know how you could possibly think more night games are bad for business. While I also have concerns about how it would look, you cannot compare the atomosphere in the 'shoe when another elite program is in town. Made for TV or not, that's the nature of the game today...either get with the times or get left behind.
I think there is room for night games and noon games. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I would be disappointed if all of our games became night games. Something about getting up early with that crisp, fall air, rolling down to campus and spending all morning/afternoon down there. Luckily, as OSU fans we don't lose often, but one thing that does suck is that if we lose a noon game, my entire day is shot.

I beg to differ. I was @ Wrigley Field and saw Pete Rose tie Ty Cobb's record. Sat through a long rain delay holding out hope they would take the field and give him a shot. Ended up calling the game due to darkness before he could come to the plate again. Why? NO FREAKING LIGHTS!!!!
Glad he got to break it @ home, but sure would've liked to have seen it that day. Damn old school thinking....
Please be lights, please be lights
Maybe they can put lights up like the ones in the Louisana Superdome?!

How much does it cost to "rent" the lights for night games currently?
Ohio State usually does not pay to rent the lights. The cost is picked up by the company televising the game. I do not think they will install permanent lights any time soon, but you never know.
I'm praying for the return of natural grass. But I'm praying to Joe Pesci, because he looks like a guy that can get things done.

IF they need some from the '02 field I still have some.

I still have a "Even on the grass we'll beat their ass." bumper sticker from the 70's. The weasels had installed astroturf that season while TOSU still had a natural surface.

I have looked at the stadium for a while in pictures and I don't know where they could squeeze in more seats unless they add a C deck to the south end. I am guessing it is going to be lights but the Taco Bell idea is gaining ground.
if it were to be expansion, i wonder how they would do it...perhaps connecting the south endzone stands, but not sure how many seats you could throw in those gaps...personally i like the way the stadium is, especially with the new additions made before the USC game in 09 and the new scoreboard...beer sales would be awesome
I'm rooting for expansion and making Ohio Stadium the largest. My hesitation is the brand new multi million dollar video screen/scoreboard they just installed. If it is an expansion to south stands it will affect the scoreboard. I also don't know where they would get another 20,000 seats into the stadium as it is configured now. My guess is narrower seats threw out, except where da rich folks set.
Perhaps "numero uno" refers to the adding of the prophecized 3rd digit on the scoreboard?
I like the perminent lighting thought for more night games. Urban is BIG on night games so there is more air time for OSU and it is a project that could be completed pretty fast compared to the other ideas. I love the 120k capacity idea though, that would be sweet but without make the shoe a bowl I don't know how you do it.
I just hope it is the speed dating thing...that would be hilarious!
So, let's say that they expand to 120K in some way or another, but the cost isn't something crazy (still expensive, but they do it with minimal procedure). With the recent approval of the ticket increase, does everyone think that we would be able to sell about 14 thousand extra tickets(St. John arena) on top of Ohio Stadium's old 106,000, all at 'premium' pricing?
I would love for OSU to have the largest, but if so it needs to be sold out every game. If it's not, I blame the administration, not the fans.
WB
I think they got a silent commit, and 12 months from now (NSD 2014) it will become official. If I remember correctly, Zach Smith is the area recruiter for Virginia...could it be he got a silent verbal from Quin Blanding?
Gotta think it will be lights. A late August or early September game should be under the lights. Maybe a premium one, too, in October. Plus, it would always allow OSU to play late season games at 3:30, like the one with the rodents from up north. Number two pick is expansion. But OSU has to be careful with expanding the seating capacity. There's no reason to add seats that are going to be empty.

ALL OF THE LIGHTS
Taquitos.
Maybe he means championship signs on the facade of c-deck, like Big Ten titles, or the 2012 Leaders champs or the 2013 national championship?
I gotta tell you...nothing sucks worse that having to drive in for a 1 pm game. If I can get there in the morning and party all day and tailgate and go to a 8pmer...nothing better. Everybody is lubed and stoked and ready for some LIIIIVE ACTION...yee yee yee.
"Lubed?" What kind of tailgating are you doing, Buckeye20?
I've gotten schnockered, inebriated, intoxicated, trashed, hammered, shitfaced, tipsy and buzzed before Ohio State games while tailgating.
But I have yet to get "lubed" at an OSU tailgate.

Lubed and live action! I think I want to go to that tailgate

ROFL! Don't need that.

Just based off the tweet it sounds like stadium expansion. Maybe making us the biggest stadium(numero uno) or (the takeover) meaning we would be the top stadium.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Where would they add seats if that is indeed what this tweet is referring to? The south endzone? That's the only place I can see that being feasable without making the stadium look terrible
Which even that seems illogical seeing as they just spent millions of dollars putting in a new scoreboard
Another possibility is maybe they're finally going to finish the facade on the south strands.
When the 'Shoe was renovated there was unexpectedly high costs envolved with the removal of steam and power lines under the stadium, so the finished concrete structure originally envisioned never came about.
If you look at a picture of the south stands from the outside you can see the beginings of the arches that go around the exterior of the entire stadium.
It's something that bothers me still over a decade later and if that's not what the tweet was about, then it still needs to be done at some point.
I'll go with #4----> Buckeye Beer in The Shoe for games, or
#7. Put a "dome" on The Shoe.
"Political correctness is tyranny with manners." Charlton Heston(1924-2008)
Not sure if serious. Please tell me you don't want a dome...
Dome was a joke. Beer...not.

I found this. It mentions renovations being done in the seating areas.

With Urban Meyer now running the ship and Kerry Coombs' "over the top" recruiting approach, when and if the Horsehoe does get permnant lights, they may very well be in the form of fireworks.
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
I do hope it's stadium expansion and that the new capacity exceeds Michigan Stadium's, igniting an intense stadium capacity war.
