"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
"You're goshed darn right I did...sure."
Woody
Awesome.
I still say that the statue should've been posed giving the "go for two" sign.
With a quote on the plaque "Because I couldn't go for three."
Umm not really a fan of this statue. It looks kinda goofy with the forward lean...
Woody Hayes was an intense man and he lived and coached with intensity. That is what the artist wanted to have come across to those who lived during his era but more importantly to those that were not alive during his era.
Because they wouldn't let me go for 3!
Woody Hayes 1913-1987
What does that have to do with leaning forward?
Love it, but couldn't they've put in it in front of the Horseshoe.
Thats cause he's leaning all up in your shit and telling you that you need to fight through the pain and get your ass back in that game !
There needs to be a bend in his knees, he looks like Gumby!
This is great, now all they need to do is put a statue of our Heisman trophy winners outside the Horseshoe.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, & Michigan still sucks
Does Archie get 2 statues?
And do they leave the afro?
How firm thy friendship..
Of course! Archie gets two of everything.
"There is a force that makes us all brothers, no one goes his way alone." --Woody Hayes
I've never seen that one before.. definitely my favorite one now, absolutely hilarious
Edit: the forward stance must be part of the intimdiation factor, but it's weird to fathom all the kids coming through here now and for the past few years weren't even alive when Woody was.
I like football
I have seen this a few times, but just now noticed that there are 2 pictures of him behind him when he goes for the 2nd piece of cake.
I don't understand how I never saw that commercial. Priceless. Especially with traitor Woodson shaking his head.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
The cleats kinda look like ice skates. Maybe they should actually be stuck in the ground like what happens in real life.
I would love to have a ripped down marker on the ground next to it.
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
Something tells me this isn't scaled to size!
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Ehh, not a big fan of that statue, I think Hayes deserved one but couldn't they have put one up of him tearing apart a yardmarker or something?
Awesome, but why'd they wait so long?
"But I'm tryin' Ringo. I'm tryin', real hard, to be the shepherd"
Im ok with it. He had that posture on the sidelines many o' times. It's better than the one in front of the Varsity Club.
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
The best part is they will never have to take it down.
^^ Exactly. Every year a little, little bit of his legacy is restored (as more don't know/forget about the demise) its a shame. Bobby Knight has been suffering the same treatment for a lesser infraction but whose stock is like Woody's sloooooowly creeping up. If Indiana is as good as they look, they'll be some Knight love in the press in March Madness. Yet, Bobby likely had bigger anger mgmt problems than Woody ??? -who knows.
I like the statue. So many of the clips/photos are him leaning at whomever. Think about it: if you want to get into somebody's face and you believe they may come back at you, it's more manly to just LEAN BACK than STEP BACK, as you are standing your ground. He loved boxing if you remember. What say you 11warriors group? the same tactic?
I'm all for a statue to Coach Hayes, but this one looks awkward and flat. Very poorly executed.
Love the idea, poor execution. At least it has short sleeves
I thought Woody won national championships in 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968 and 1970 that were all "recognized" (1961 and 1970 were not consensus championships). I would have liked to recognize those championships on the plaque.
I agree - at least a mention of them somehow. I always thought the school recognized Woody for 5 NCs, but I guess they just went consensus...Oh well, 3 NCs is still a damn fine career in anyone's book!
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
I like the idea of doing this, but putting it in front of the athletic center sitting on pavers does it no justice. It should be out in front of Ohio Stadium and have it's own sidewalk and bench seats around it. Maybe face it north or something.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
^ agree.
I'd have him facing south so that his backside faces north. That'd be more fitting.
From my post yesterday:
Two of Woody's themes were "Pay Forward" and "You Win With People". Would be great to incorporate. Great to see we are honoring the man that cemented a legacy for all of us.
Glad they included this on the inscription.
Three national championships? BLASPHEMY! Whoever wrote that must be some lillylivered traitor who wants to work for Disney.GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
"Beceause I couldn't go for three!"
They spelled five wrong

Where's the turtle?
Damn, best me to that joke
Woody was an alpha male. He was the boss. That is what they do. You better listen and listen good. That is what the lean is trying to portray, IMHO.
I like it.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
I'm a little ambivalent. I understand what the artist is trying to get accross, I'm just not sure he got it accross. Hopefully this becomes a shrine with students and fans providing the appropriate accoutrements for coach. He needs some weasels to step on, a few yard markers to shred and most definitely a few roses.
"I don't like nice people. I like tough, honest people." -W.W. Hayes
Not a fan. Should have been one of him pointing and yelling at something.
