Except, based on my few encounters in Morgantown, it's not usually the offspring of "mountain folk" who light the fires and generally cause the problems. Rather, it's the Jersey Shore/Philadelphia variety - i.e., many of the same types that make the PSU fan base so lovely.
I know, I know, I'm making unfair generalizations . . .
Jesus Christ, the mob brought down a telephone pole that was still electrified and threw it in the fire. Barbaric. Although this is the same state that has a roadkill festival.
It's a shame. We are looking for a small apartment sized couch for the mother-in-law. Could have made an offer on one of them. Pre-ignition of course. But then again, thinking about the use of said couches, maybe not.
I know someone who was a student at WVU and they would steal couches left at the Salvation Army. Her father (brother...who knows) liked to go help her do this!!!
I have ZERO interest in ever going to Morgantown. Obviously, they aren't the only school that has stuff like this happen. UK did last spring, Ohio State when they clinched the Fiesta Bowl wasn't a nice scene either. Miami of Ohio and Ohio U usually seem to have some sort of cop car burning ceremony every year or 2. BUT this seems like a weekly event in Morgantown.

Amazing. Script Ohio, The Michigan Banner, 'Play Like a Champion Today" annnnnnd lighting your own things on fire....great college traditions.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Hopefully the fires never reach the stills, because things could get very ugly.
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
Or any abandoned coal mine. See Centralia Coal Seem Fire.

Funny you mention that. I'm going there in December. Read both books on it. I am ridiculously fascinated by that whole event.
Country roads, take me home,
To the place couches burn,
West Virginia....
New slogan for the United Hillbilly College Fund: "A 27 year-old beer and urine soaked couch is a terrible thing to waste."

It's about time to start up a discount couch emporium in Morgantown.
And in Lexington, KY for basketball season....
People are saying that I'm an alcoholic, and that's not true, because I only drink when I work, and I'm a workaholic.

Sometimes generalizations are TRUTH though Fido. I thought the same thing about PSU for many years.

Watch out for bedbugs dude. I personally would not take any used furniture at this point with how bad they are in Columbus right now.
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
I was just about to say, "Maybe they did it to get rid of bedbugs."
That's more like it. Burning only 10 couches last week was weak, they had to step up their game for this week.
Class of 2010.
"Burnin Down the House" is taken too literally.
I hope I never have to set foot in that state again, including just driving through it
One of the most depressing places I've ever been
I have to drive through it every year for school. I-77 is such a bore.

Buckeye in PA purgatory
Anyone that has ever started a fire knows you need good kindling.
They're just like us! ... 10 years ago ...
A good example of why sterilization needs to be enforced in America...
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.

Reminds me of Columbus during the 96 season.
Beat Penn State? Start a fire.
Lose to Michigan? Start 2 fires!
