Minnesota Students Will Wear This Mask While Watching the Gophers and Buckeyes in the Hockey City Classic Friday Night

Minnesota hockey mask.

Friday night, Ohio State's men's and women's hockey teams will take on their counterparts from Minnesota in the Hockey City Classic outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium.

Because it's Minneapolis and January, it will be cold, so students will receive the awesome/terrifying Goldy Gopher mask you see above. The game will air on BTN and the visuals should be amazing.

Try living up here, they think it's a good thing.  Idiots!

I was down to Minnesota and tOSU as my final two for college. Minneapolis is beautiful and the campus is definitely manageable during the winter. Tunnels to everything. Of course, tOSU was my choice and was definitely the right one.

Try living up here, they think it's a good thing.  Idiots!

I've lived in Alaska & Norrland (northern Sweden). Quit your whining.

Funny, I was talking to one of my friends in Sweden as she woke up, and usually the mere thought of Swedish winter mornings makes me grab a blanket.
The thing is- because of the crazy North American cold snap, it was a soggy, humid 8 degrees here in Tennessee, and a balmy, calm 41 degrees in Stockholm. Weird as hell.

I know  where you're coming from. I spent the holidays in Sweden and had just returned to the US shortly before the temps plummeted. I was definitely thinking "I came back for this?!". The extreme swings we get from living at the edge of the great plains aren't at all common in Sweden. The temperature tends to be more consistent (albeit consistently colder).
Stockholm is also in the southern third or so of the country. When I mentioned Norrland I specifially meant Lulea which is roughly 450 miles north of Stockholm.
The real difference between Sweden and someplace like Minnesota isn't really temps (let's be honest, my teasing aside Minnesota isn't exactly tropical) it's the damn short days. Having the sun go down at 3 in the afternoon drove me crazy.

looks kinda fun...

I like the mask it looks cool.  It reminds me of the free masks Nationwide gave out a few years back with the football helmet stripe down it.  I wear that thing all winter long.

Glad they go by the Golden Gophers, and not the Snow Llamas.....

Why is it that when I saw that mask, I immediately thought of this scene from Dumb and Dumber?

Rock over London; Rock on Chicago. Timex: It takes a lickin' but keeps on tickin'

As much as I like the movie, Unky, I have no clue why your brain did that :) Did you have a lot of cheese today?

What is this? A center for ants?!? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read if they can't even fit inside the building?

Unky Buck's picture

I had a rather cheesy calzone for lunch! But I only ate half of it. It must be why though. The other half is being eaten for lunch today, so maybe that's a warning for some more random thoughts and eventual posts exposing said thoughts.

How did they get 1984 Tom Cruise to pose for this photo?

I'll be there as well, though not wearing that particular mask. In addition to being hideous (just from the color combination alone), the puck drops at 8pm and the temp will be hovering just north of zero: that mask looks...not warm enough. It's also lacking an easy insert for a flask. I'm assuming the locals are just rocking a camelback spout underneath.
Cheers to outdoor hockey!

I'll be the one rocking a white Buckeye hockey sweater sitting with the chesseweasel... she's gonna be fun to be with as she is unabashed about her love of Wiscy

In other news, Michigan fans will be wearing this mask for the 2014 football season.

I'd rock one of those to a game if it was the lower half of a buckeye.

I will be there with my mom & son rooting for the Buckeyes. High temp of 10 with below zero windchill-FUN !!!!

Maybe the Dalai Lama will be there to cheer them on... I see he is a Gopher fan and wears the colors well:
